Shredded Chicken Curry / Chicken Bharta

Chicken bharta is a very popular dish served in Dhabas (indian road side eateries). It is believed that this recipe has originated from restaurant kitchen. Shredded/julinedded chicken is cooked with spices, herbs, cream and many more to create a divine taste.

  1. In a wok heat oil and add cinnamon, cardamom and clove.
  2. When spices release aroma add onion slices and fry till translucent.
  3. Add ginger and garlic paste and saute.
  4. When raw smell of ginger and garlic paste is removed add tomato, salt and turmeric. Cook with lid on till onion and tomato turns mushy.
  5. Add paprika, kasuri methi, coriander powder and cumin powder. Give it a good mix then add chicken.
  6. Cook at medium flame with lid on. When chicken is cooked and releases oil add shahi garam masala powder, cashew paste and cilantro. Mix well.
  7. Stir for a minute then add fresh cream. Add little water if you want more gravy and let simmer for about a minute.
  8. Transfer to a serving bowl and garnish with cilantro and boiled egg cut into half.
  9. Serve hot with chapati, paratha or naan.
